Are you looking to find or embrace your creative spirit but can't seem to decide what you want to make or how you're going to make it? Are you in a creative dry spell? Are you having doubts about the path that you're on but feel like it might be too late to make a change in your life? Do you feel overwhelmed by city life and are you in need of embracing your wild feminine? Do you need to howl at the moon?
Â
Moderated by Rachelle Robinett, founder of Supernatural, and featuring Mallory Lance, founder, editor-in-chief and creative director of Ravenous Zine, we will discuss these elements as well as how Ravenous Zine can be used as a tool to get your own creative flow in motion.
Â
Inspired by the wild woman archetype as popularized by Clarissa Pinkola Estes, Ravenous Zine is a print journal dedicated to honoring the wild feminine; it is full of stories, interviews, recipes and DIY info to spark the creative spirit and to nourish the soul. Ravenous began as a necessity for creator Lance who had gone through the darkest of times leading up to her decision to move forward with creating the series. With no prior experience in the magazine industry, journalism or the photo industry, she put one foot in front of the other and bootstrapped her vision into reality. Following the successful release of volume one in December--which is now on its second print run--the publication will be coming out semi-annually, with the next volume set for a June 2018 release.
Â
Each volume will focus on a particular topic as the Ravenous Zine series unfolds. In this talk, we will focus on the first volume of the series, which is themed around "craft".
Â
We will focus on:
- The Creative Process: How to set things in motion to birth something guided by your inner meditations
- The Crafting Process: How small, independent makers and maker-culture is influencing the landscape, and how to get your hands dirty and begin making things from scratch yourself
- Creative Recovery: What it means to get through a period of darkness and stagnancy to set the ball in motion and to achieve your dreams

About Ravenous Zine
(which will be available for purchase at the event)
Ravenous Zine is a printed publication for women to connect with the wild within. Through visual art, feature articles and interviews, with an emphasis on activism and self care, it explores the archetype of the wild woman as put forth by Clarissa Pinkola Estes in her iconic work, Women Who Run With the Wolves. The zine is everywoman and Earth-focused, yet it contains a highly-stylized, woodsy, dark aesthetic that mirrors the wild, earthy, feral elements of femininity that are absent from modern mainstream culture. At its core, it’s about reconnecting to our wild nature by gathering in circles, participating in activism, cooking and making crafts. It’s a manual for face-to-face, in-person gatherings in this age of social media and physical disconnection. It’s about peeling back the layers and uncovering the ways of the wild women of antiquity who were largely snuffed out in the Inquisition and in the many centuries of witch hunts. During those eras, the patriarchal forces took over and the church did its best to suppress and eradicate the intuitive powers of women. This deep-rooted suspicion remains pervasive in mainstream culture today, manifested in the fear and jealousy of other women, the fear of living a creative life, and the fear of taking creative chances. The craft volume of Ravenous Zine seeks to introduce an entry point for creating with our hands so that we can move forward in our individual creative paths while supporting others on their creative paths.

Mallory Lance is the founder, Editor-In-Chief and creative director of Ravenous Zine. She began her career working in the film industry, and after a brief period in lifestyle book publishing as a senior editor, she left the arts admin world to begin her own business. Driven by an innate need to reconnect with the wild, underground and fascinating worlds of discovery, she left office work to become an event producer and content creator, launching Ravenous Craft, a lifestyle destination for which she curated and conceptualized workshops, dinners, and tastings, partnering with Atlas Obscura and other organizations, dedicated to peeling back the layers and unearthing the history behind craftsmanship that goes into food, drink, and plant medicine. She continues to produce events that fit this ethos while working on volume two of Ravenous Zine, set for a June 2018 release.
